Voices from Our Community

The activity days gave me a reason to get out of the house. I finally feel like I’m part of a team again and moving forward with my life.

Former Infantryman

Knowing there’s dedicated support right here in County Durham makes a huge difference. The community really understands what we go through.

Veteran Supporter

The peer support through the WhatsApp group meant I was never alone. It’s a trusted space that genuinely helps with mental well-being.

Army Veteran

I joined the group to help veterans. I am a veteran myself and whilst I don’t have any mental heath issues a large number of my army friends did and I recognised that I could give more back to these people so now I help run VAFMH

Right from the start, joining felt welcoming and friendly. I went to a back to basics camping weekend at Bellisima’s Retreat, the place we are now trying to save, and it really is a special place. As soon as I arrived, I could feel my anxiety easing off. Just being there, having a laugh, talking about old times, and getting on with a few jobs around camp really helped me switch off and clear my mind. It gave me a chance to reset and reminded me what really matters. Places like this can make a real difference for veterans.

The community woodworking project helped me rediscover my sense of purpose. It's about more than just craft; it's about the banter and the bond.

Veteran’s Family Member

There is hope in every conversation and strength in our shared journey. Together, we are building a supportive community across Country, ensuring no veteran faces their mental health challenges alone. Your presence makes an impact.
